Music festivals are often associated with raves, crazy times and illicit drug and alcohol use. However, those who attend the Michigan music festival, Electric Forest, know that a music festival can be a lot more meaningful. Year after year, return festival goers come to Sherwood Forest in Rothbury, MI for amazing music, experiences and for the incredible connection to nature and others they feel during the weekend long festival. The promotional posters I created for the 2022 Electric Forest festival highlight the opportunity this event gives attendees to connect with nature and friends as well as the chance to make new life long connections.
Goals and Objectives
To design two promotional posters that represent the Michigan-based music festival, Electric Forest, in a new way.
Research
I started off by researching what Electric Forest was all about, what the festival meant to those who go and what their brand identity and past themes have looked like. Then, I created mind maps based on the recurring ideas I found during research in order to think of a new way to convey the festival in an authentic light. From there, I utilized the creative flexibility of collaging and sketching to begin the design process.
Audience
Individuals who attend Electric Forest and those who are interested in music festivals.
What I learned
Throughout the ideation portion of this project’s design process, I learned how helpful it can be to work with your hands instead of designing on a screen right away. This project also further emphasized the point in my mind that exploration beyond the obvious always creates a more interesting result.
