From beautiful color, colliding patterns to bold design, interdisciplinary designer, Alexander Girard, created amazing textiles, furniture, graphics, patterns and so much more. By following the folk art tradition Girard was so enthralled with, I created a tapestry that is a culmination of the essence of Alexander Girard as a designer and collector. The design expresses Girard’s passion for his work and life through a visual narration of color, image and type. By letting Alexander Girard’s work speak for itself as well giving others impressions of the designer a time to shine, this biography textile shows The Wonderful World of Alexander Girard.
Goals and Objectives
To create a visual biography of the amazing multidisciplinary work of the designer, Alexander Girard.
Research
For this project, I extensively researched Alexander Girard’s life, body of work and what others had to say about him in order to create a visual biography that captures who Girard was as a person, artist and designer.
Audience
Individuals who are interested in learning more about and being inspired by Alexander Girard.
What I learned
During the research portion of this project, I was very inspired by Girard’s work, especially his textile designs. This work sparked inspired me to explore the use of textiles within my work.
